About the Calgary Herald

The Calgary Herald Mining and Ranche Advocate and General Advertiser began publishing as a weekly newspaper on August 31, 1883, when Calgary’s population was just 400 people. Since then, the Calgary Herald has chronicled the evolution of Calgary's vibrant, enterprising city and the world we live in.

Community is at the heart of what we do at the Herald every day. We are especially proud of such initiatives as the Calgary Herald Christmas Fund, our annual Raise-a-Reader literacy campaign, and the recent Sandy Beach Riverbank Rescue Project. We are also pleased to lend our support to the many individuals, organizations and charities that perform admirable work on our community’s behalf. Together we share a common goal to make Calgary the best place to live, work and play.

This is an exhilarating time for our city and also for the Calgary Herald's team. We are implementing new technologies that will dramatically improve our capabilities to publish news and information in print, online and to mobile. We are reinvigorating the content of our print edition and on calgaryherald.com, where we offer breaking news day and night, as well as audio, video and a forum for lively conversation and debate. The Calgary Herald's mission is to provide its readers with the highest quality news and information about their city and their world, delivered with accuracy and integrity.
