Calgary is home to many ethnic festivals during all times of the year. The showcases, which are mostly put on by ethnic community associations, present entertainment, food and native art to Calgarians so that they may explore cultures beyond their own. Ethnic festivals in Calgary attract thousands of visitors every year.

Zoo Events

The Calgary Zoo hosts hundreds of events over the course of the year, some private and some public. The events entertain zoo patrons and raise funds for the Calgary Zoological Society, the organization that supports the zoo’s research, acquisitions and operations. Highlights of the annual events include Zoolights, a Christmas light festival; the Tusks & Tails Gala, a fundraising ball and Zoogala, the Calgary Zoo’s "premier fundraiser."

Calgary holds a number of events annually to celebrate the culture and lives of the people in the gay and lesbian community. The Calgary Gay Pride Parade, the Fairy Tales International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, the Canadian Rockies International Rodeo and the Apollo Western Cup are all annual events that celebrate alternative lifestyles in Calgary.
